We appreciate your participation and generosity. My name is Danita and I’m a volunteer on the auction and your help in getting the word out generates more shoppers and visits to the auction website. We have added two new features to this year’s auction. We know that there are some shoppers who are unable to bid on items but do want to contribute to the cause so we have added a store which will allow them to purchase items and the proceeds go towards the auction the link is http://www.cafepress.com/brendanovaksonlinediabetesauction. We have also added a blog which will have updates of the auction, items that are currently being spotlighted, and much more. The link to visit is http://bnauctionblog.tumblr.com/. Without having produced a work, we wouldn't even be recognized by the agents and publishers of the world. Early in my career I wrote a book called "Having a Baby Alone" and was sent to the very agent who got Amy Tan her first big deal. She took the time to read my book. She gave positive and negative feedback. Though that book of mine didn't go anywhere, I will always remember that a great agent such as herself took the time to read it and connect with me, out of one of hundreds of thousands in the 1980's trying to write and have a book published. Once I moved on to writing my computer software book (which did later become published) I learned to greet rejection as an opportunity, for with every turn-down, I received jewels for success in the form of criticism that led to the perfecting of my work. Lisa, you have great insight into the process of being a published author. Your insight always touches a chord with anyone who reads your words, and I look forward (with the hunger akin to what one feels in anticipating tasting that rich wedge of caramel cheesecake) to your next published work! Please bring it on soon ... : )Felicianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1502649016629224182.post-27385599699496293452011-03-21T03:26:25.157-05:002011-03-21T03:26:25.157-05:00Nice post about the bidding of diabetes research.Nice post about the bidding of diabetes research.Yahoo Japan Auctionhttp://googlefive.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1502649016629224182.post-60747182197975654172011-02-21T09:34:08.262-06:002011-02-21T09:34:08.262-06:00Like everyone I'm related to and work with and...Like everyone I'm related to and work with and basically every person I know. I'm not published yet, so I don't know anything about royalties or how it affects someone who is published.
But, as a *cross my fingers" future published writer, I'd really love to see my name on a book spine, and all my hard work poured into a comfy paperback that people can carry with them to work, spill coffee on it, dog-ear a page and all that other good stuff that comes along with having an actual book. And, as Kelly up above there said, "Nothing smells quite like a paper book."

RT Bookreviews actually did a poll on this in their August issue. 74% of the poll takers preferred mass-market paperbacks, and only 10% liked the format of e-books. And, personally, I hope it stays that way. E-books are a nice concept and it might have even encouraged some to read more because of the convienence of having any book at your finger tips. But, I hope it doesn't become our only source of reading material.P. My other novels are hardback - i.e. expensive - so I'm hoping my reader base will enjoy the much cheaper e-book. With technology improving on an almost daily basis, people can now get free e-reader apps for their iPads, iPhones, PCs, laptops, etc. which is good.

Piracy, of course, is a huge problem though.

Another point is that, in the UK at least, the independent bookstores have mostly vanished. I think that was more to do with the big boys like Amazon and The Book Depository than the arrival of e-books. Here, we can only get the best sellers from our bookstores.

It's a thorny subject and I suppose only time will tell.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05938431508430656253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1502649016629224182.post-54564587672576309552010-08-28T21:09:13.615-05:002010-08-28T21:09:13.615-05:00Nothing smells quite like a paper book. I can't speak on royalties because I don't have enough under my belt to tell you if I'm selling. But just offering a book as an e-read, we are cutting out a huge chunk of readers. Like everyone I'm related to and work with and basically every person I know. I was totally psyched about have a print book even if the print run was 1000. Vanity.
